Cheese & Mulled Wine Party

The weather is cooler so it’s time to bring your platters inside and a Cheese and Mulled Wine Party is the perfect winter alternative to summer when you have cheese and wine on the deck.

It’s this easy:

  1. Make your mulled wine - see recipe below.

  2. Choice your favourite cheeses, for us it has got to be Origin Earth’s Takenga Blue, Pink & White Terraces, Takenga Gold and Sleeping Giant, our Camembert-style is also a good addition especially if some of your guests aren’t so keen on stronger cheeses.

  3. Add a selection of bread and crackers and other condiments and there’s your Winter Cheese and Mulled Wine Party.

Or make things even easier and grab the Entertainer’s Gourmet Platter from our Online Cheese Shop.

Easy Mulled Wine

Making the syrup can be done in advance, then reheat it when ready to serve the mulled wine and finish as directed.

Place 200g caster sugar in a large saucepan. Add 2 large strips orange zest, 1 each strip lemon and lime zest, 6 whole cloves, 1 cinnamon stick, 3 fresh bay leaves, 1 split vanilla pod and a good grating of nutmeg, then pour over just enough red wine to cover the sugar. Place over a medium heat, bring to a simmer and simmer to dissolve the sugar. Bring mixture to the boil and boil or 4-5 minutes or until a thick syrup forms.

Reduce heat, add remaining wine and heat gently for about 5 minutes – take care not to boil after adding the remaining wine as this will remove the alcohol. Strain to remove fruit zest and spices. Ladle into heatproof glasses or mugs to serve. Serves 10
