HALLOUMI
Halloumi (pronounced ha-loo-mee), a centuries old cheese, originates from Cyprus, but it and similar cheeses are also popular in Greece and throughout the Middle East.
This salty, un-ripened cheese has a high melting point which lends itself to pan-frying, grilling and barbecuing – when cooked a crisp crust forms on the outside with the inside softening and becoming deliciously chewy. Best eaten while still warm.
Halloumi is a favourite summer cheese and because of its versatility is much loved by vegetarians – our halloumi is made using vegetable rennet.
Try halloumi with the following foods: chilli; lemons; mint; parsley; olive oil; olives; pita bread; and tomatoes.
Try halloumi with the following beverages: sparkling white wines and Champagne; aromatic whites such as Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc; and medium-bodied reds such as Pinot Noir, Grenache and Shiraz.
