Origin Earth Milk tanker.

Our new 1700 litre milk pick up tanker trailer has been delivered. Very cool. Built by Xcell Engineering in Havelock North, the tanker will be used to bring milk direct from our supply farms to our factory in Hastings.

The tanker is insulated and has built in chilling capacity and stirring, once at the factory. If you are out of bed early enough you may see it on the road.

Origin Earth’s first Hawkes bay Farmers Market was on the 5th December 2010. Our initial offering of fresh Hawkes Bay Milk and Potset Yoghurt, took off like a train. Many customers who had not drunk milk since the bad old days of warm school milk rediscovered what milk really tastes like.

Our Potset Yoghurt, (we believe it is one of only two brands in the country), was a new taste sensation for Hawkes Bay. Being set in the very pot it is made in, a thin layer of cream floats to the top during the setting process. This is delicious and we have been advising people to use our yoghurt as an alternative to whipped cream.

The Farmers Market on the 9th of January saw our debut into the cheese business, with pots of cows’ feta in brine. We well underestimated the market and were sold out by about 10.30am.

Origin Earth has been conceived to recognise the growing wave of farmers who are running their farms based on soil biology and long term sustainability. We believe we are the first company in New Zealand to recognise the quality of produce coming from biologically farmed soils.

Our initial offering of fresh milk, pot set yoghurt and a small range of cheeses are all made with milk from Kevin Davidson’s Plantation Road Dairy, at Onga Onga in Central Hawkes Bay. Kevin spoke at the 2010 National Fieldays immediatly after the Prime Minister’s opening address. He spoke of his dedication to taking a “soil health” approach to large scale farming and subtly put the “traditional” fertilser companies on notice.
